League sources have confirmed that the New Orleans Saints have signed Deuce McAllister, one of the most popular players in team history.
In seven seasons with the Saints McAllister rushed for 6,069 yards and 49 touchdowns and averaged 4.3 yards per carry.
To make room for McAllister, the Saints placed defensive tackle Rodney Leisle to injured reserve.
Stay with The Times-Picayune for details on how the Saints plan to use McAllister.
McAllister had major surgery on both knees in his career.
He played three games in 2007 and parts of 13 games in 2008. In 2008, he had 107 carries for 418 yards and five touchdowns.
This is a emotional lift for the fans of course, but the saints could use a bruizing run game to keep the chains moving and Kurt Warner off the field.
