METAIRIE, La. — There went Pierre Thomas, on a screen pass in the Superdome late last Saturday. He maneuvered past one Detroit Lions defender, split two others, stumbled, regained his balance with one hand and continued to plow forward. It took three defenders to wrestle him to the turf.
This play, a not-so-simple relatively short gain on a night when the Saints set an N.F.L. postseason record with 626 yards, gave guard Carl Nicks flashbacks to the 2009 season, back when Thomas was similarly healthy and proved a catalyst for the Saints’ playoff run
