Charlotte, N.C. — It appears the New Orleans Saints have picked up where they left off last week, and steamrolled the Carolina Panthers 34-3 at Bank of America Stadium in downtown Charlotte on Sunday.
The Saints rolled up more than 400 yards of total offense
This game was never really a contest as the Saints jumped on the Panthers early and if not for a flukey interception early in the first quarter, the Saints would have had a shutout.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It wasn’t long ago that John Fox was fresh off a trip to the NFC title game and a couple years removed from a Super Bowl appearance as he pushed to get buddy Sean Payton his first head-coaching job with the New Orleans Saints.
Now wearing a Super Bowl ring, Payton is a coaching star. Fox’s fortunes, meanwhile, have plummeted. Denied a contract extension, his Carolina Panthers are among the worst teams in the NFL, and all signs point to this being Fox’s last year with the team.
Kenneth in Boston writes: Can we talk about a couple young guys on the Saints’ thriving defense right now? Patrick Robinson and Sedrick Ellis are/have been playing phenomenal, wouldn’t you agree? It doesn’t seem like they’re getting enough attention right now, though.
New Orleans Saints fans watching the 2009 draft unfold were no doubt puzzled the team took a punter in the fifth round; those fans watching Thomas Morstead punt this season might be wondering why no one took him sooner.
In a season in which the Saints have struggled for consistency, Morstead has not. Each week he excels in one way or another. He averaged 51 yards on four punts against Cleveland and dropped three kicks inside the 20-yard line against Pittsburgh.
There was a radio report out of New Orleans that’s been generating all sorts of innuendo today. The report said that quarterback Drew Brees has been playing with a “fractured’’ knee and torn meniscus and that he will require micro-fracture surgery following the season.
Well, let’s go straight to the top of the Saints’ ladder on this one. Coach Sean Payton just finished addressing the New Orleans media and he was asked to address the report.
“It’s inaccurate,’’ Payton said. “It’s not right. Completely false.”
