Matt in Miami writes: Hey Pat, what do you think about the Saints using a 3-4 a lot against the Vikings?
Pat Yasinskas: I thought it was interesting. We saw that at times last season, but it seemed more prevalent Thursday night. Not sure if that was just part of Gregg Williams’ game plan to throw the Vikings off or if it’s something we’ll see more of this season. I think it’s a nice thing to do in certain situations, but I don’t think the Saints have the personnel (particularly at linebacker) to really use the 3-4 on a regular basis.

New Orleans Saints starting left tackle Jermon Bushrod doesn’t want to take all the credit.
Although he more than held his own against Minnesota Vikings All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen in the Saints’ 14-9 season-opening victory Thursday, Bushrod said it was an entire team effort that led to his success. So when asked if he thought he had won the battle against Allen, Bushrod was quick to deflect the attention.
“I would say we won the battle, ” Bushrod said. “I really don’t harp on individual-type things. We just went out there as 11. It’s not an individual game, it’s a team game. There were times I counted on my teammates to help me out, and vice versa. Everything just kind of plays hand in hand.”
However, to Saints Coach Sean Payton and Bushrod’s line mates, it was clear Bushrod had the upper hand, as Allen failed to generate much of a pass rush and wasn’t a factor in slowing the Saints’ second-half rushing attack.

The New Orleans Saints’ 14-9 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night at the Superdome was hardly the most thrilling performance in recent franchise history. But it can certainly be the kind of win that sets a tone for the rest of the season.
Consider the effect that some of these under-the-radar games had on the Saints in recent years:
A “ho-hum” 19-14 victory at Cleveland in the 2006 opener, which gave the rebuilt Saints confidence and eventually allowed them to head into the Superdome with a 2-0 record for that unforgettable Monday night Dome opener against Atlanta.
A disastrous 16-13 loss at home to Carolina in the fourth game of 2007, when the Saints missed countless opportunities, including two missed field-goal attempts by Olindo Mare. That dropped them into a deep 0-4 hole that they ultimately couldn’t dig out of.
This is an Update from the Hurricane Center in WHO DAT NATION
Tropical Storm 2 Dat which formed over 4 weeks ago has been upgraded Thursday Sept 9th 2010 to Hurricane 2 DAT and has become a CAT 1 as expected!
Seems a Viking ship did not heed the warning from Last January and returned to the storm center to be blown away by the Powerful BREES and thrashed by a Tornado named Thomas. Looting also was spotted in the Dome as a thief known as VILMA stole a FARV ball.
The WHO DAT Hurricane center will keep the Who DAT NATION updated as Hurricane 2 DAT continues its path to DALLAS in where it is expected 2 PEAT.
In 2009 Pigs flew and Hell froze over so now it’s time for lightning to strike twice….
Next land fall is will be Monday Sept 20th in San Francisco, Expect the 49ers to seek shelter in there mines as the storm surge grows toward CAT 2.
This has been a Hurricane 2 DAT update.

NEW ORLEANS – For months, the Vikings’ opener at New Orleans, in a rematch of an epic NFC title game, in the home of a city believing the Saints offered proof of its rebirth, felt as consequential and symbolic as Christmas.
Turns out it was more like Halloween — a holiday signifying little, featuring loud costumes and leaving half the participants with queasy stomachs.
Ugly and overhyped as it was, the Vikings’ 14-9 loss to the Saints doesn’t mean much. Losing on the road to a championship team early in the season is hardly fatal. It was just another Fleur de Loss in “The City That Doesn’t Sleep In Its Own Bed.”

NEW ORLEANS — They unfurled a Super Bowl championship banner in the Superdome on Thursday night. But did the New Orleans Saints roll out a Super Bowl team?
Well, it sure didn’t look like it on first glance, but that might be a bit misleading when you give it a second and third look.
Carve it up however you want, because aside from one impressive opening drive, this wasn’t last year’s formula of Drew Brees throwing darts all day or Gregg Williams’ opportunistic defense scoring points or helping create them or the special teams pulling off miracle plays.
