Second-year linebacker Stanley Arnoux is drawing praise in New Orleans Saints training camp

Mike Triplett

After talking with New Orleans Saints coaches and front office personnel throughout the past week, one name seems to be coming up again and again – Stanley Arnoux.

This was supposed to be a “redshirt freshman” season for the second-year linebacker, who missed the entire 2009 season after tearing his Achilles tendon during the first day of rookie minicamp. But the fourth-round draft pick out of Wake Forest is looking more like a player who could contribute early on special teams and as a situational backup

New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey returns to practice

by Robert Stewart

The colorful New Orleans Saints tight end returned to action in training camp after missing the past seven practices while dealing with knee soreness.

“He’s doing well,” Saints Coach Sean Payton said. “A lot of it is just making sure we monitor any soreness. But I was encourage with how he worked today.”

Players who sat out Thursday’s lone practice include cornerbacks Tracy Porter and Patrick Robinson, linebacker Scott Shanle, tight end Tory Humphrey and defensive lineman Jimmy Wilkerson.

Porter and Robinson also sat out Wednesday afternoon’s practice. Porter has been out with back spasms, and Robinson has been out with a hamstring problem.

Celebrate Madden Gras with former Saints, musical guests, a parade, and more

Another story from Danny Cox

Many of the superstitious in New Orleans have done everything they can to not make eye contact with the supposed “cursed” cover of the new Madden NFL 11 video game. Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees graces the cover and history does not prove lucky for him.

As much as some Saints’ fans may try to ignore and avoid it though; there always comes a time when you just have to face your fears. That time is Monday, August 9 and the place is New Orleans.

EA Sports proudly presents Madden Gras 2011 and as the press report says, they’re doing it “N’awlins” style.

Will Smith: Underrated – but not underappreciated by the Who Dat Nation

Kristian Garic Reporting

Will Smith has been with the Saints since 2004. He has led the team in sacks from 2005 to 2007. Smith has a career total of 49.5 quarterback sacks and yet he’s not considered one of the top flight defensive ends in the league “It simply has to do with the fact that before the Saints won the Super Bowl nobody knew who he was because he played in New Orleans,” WWL’s Bobby Hebert said. Smith is one of the quiet leaders in the locker room. He’s survived a coaching change and is one of three remaining players from the previous coaching regime still on the roster. That is no coincidence. “There is a reason he’s around. He’s highly productive. He’s a tremendous leader and a good character guy something that Coach Sean Payton places a lot of emphases on,” Hebert explained.

Smith might be getting better with age. Last season the former Ohio State Buckeye posted a career high of 13 sacks including 7.5 from November through the Super Bowl in February.
