The New Orleans Saints locked up one of their veteran safeties on the first day of free agency Friday, but not the one that everyone’s been wondering about.
The Super Bowl champs re-signed backup Pierson Prioleau to a one-year deal, their first signing of the 2010 season, while fellow safety Darren Sharper and outside linebacker Scott Fujita remain unsigned on the open market.
The Saints have had positive discussions with both Sharper and Fujita, according to league sources. But both veteran starters have also been shopping elsewhere.
Matt Damon (“Invictus”) wears the black and gold during an appearance on Friday’s (March 5) “The Late Show with David Letterman” – the result of a Super Bowl bet with New Orleans native Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker”).
Just when you thought it was over ………………….
Who Dat suing NFL Properties? And the New Orleans Saints? And the state of Louisiana? Who Dat?
Who Dat? Inc. filed suit in federal district court Thursday in Baton Rouge.
A House resolution hailing the New Orleans Saints‘ first Super Bowl victory brought together Democrats, Republicans and Indianapolis Colts fans Thursday.
But not everyone.
The resolution, honoring the Who Dat Nation’s 31-17 victory in Super Bowl XLIV, passed 375-1. The one negative vote was cast by Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Ill.
“He’s a huge Colts fan,” said Johnson spokesman Phil Bloomer, explaining that his east-central Illinois district is much closer to Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium than the Chicago Bears’ Soldier Field.
Is Johnson afraid of being labeled a sore loser? “He takes his football very seriously,” Bloomer said.
The New Orleans Saints just announced that they are releasing defensive end Charles Grant, linebacker Mark Simoneau and guard Jamar Nesbit.
We’ll try to get some reaction from the team and players. Here’s the full release from the team:
New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Thursday that the club has released offensive lineman Jamar Nesbit and linebacker Mark Simoneau, and that the club will release defensive end Charles Grant on Friday.
Never know what you are going to see when you are out and about in New Orleans.

The 2011 Pro Bowl will be played a week before Super Bowl XLV and return to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, the NFL announced today. The game will be televised live on Sunday, January 30 on FOX at 7 PM ET. FOX will televise Super Bowl XLV a week later on Sunday, February 6 from Cowboys Stadium in North Texas.
This video recaps all the nay-sayers. Those who were picking the Colts over the Saints. Very sweet.
Talk about striking while the iron is hot. A Louisiana lawmaker has proposed “Who Dat Nation’’ license plates be made available by the state.
You want to see government move quickly on something? Keep an eye on this one. The bill is supposed to be filed before the next legislative session starts at the end of March. Just a hunch here, but I’m thinking it would not be a wise career move for any politician to oppose this one.

State Representative Rickey Hardy says he asked House staff to draft a bill even before the Saints upset the Colts in Super Bowl 44.
Slidell Senator A.G. Crowe also plans to file a bill creating the “Who Dat” license tags. Crowe wants to sell the plates for $50 to $60, with proceeds going to charitable causes.
Hardy’s bill calls for just a one-time extra $3.50 fee, that would help defray the cost of
Hardy doesn’t see much opposition to his proposal.
The bill will be discussed during the legislative session, which begins on March 29th.
